Sanaz Askari, DO, FACP

Dr. Askari has an amazing ability to connect with people and is dedicated to her patients and their wellbeing. She takes joy in learning and building partnerships with her patients and providing them with the highest quality of up-to-date medical care. She is a well-respected member of the medical community and has been providing Internal Medicine care for hospitalized and subsequently primary care patients in Central Oregon since 2006. After a 7-year career in hospitalist medicine, she joined Cascade Internal Medicine Specialists in February 2011 and enthusiastically embarked on her full-time outpatient practice. She continues to cover hospital shifts for St. Charles Healthcare System to maintain her inpatient skills. In addition, she has been involved in multiple local medical and hospital organizations serving to improve the quality of health care provided to patients in our community.

​Dr. Askari moved to Bend in January of 2006 form the California Bay Area where she lived most of her life. She graduated from UC Berkeley in 1995 with a double major and completed several years of graduate school doing scientific research in Immunology at Harvard Medical School in Boston where she co-authored many scientific publications. In 2001 she graduated with honors from Touro University College of Osteopathic Medicine. She then completed her residency and chief residency in Internal Medicine at St. Mary's Medical Center in San Francisco. She is Board certified by the American Board of Internal Medicine. She is a fellow of the American College of Physicians and a member of the Oregon Medical Association and Central Oregon Medical Society.

Dr. Askari is an active medical staff member at St. Charles Hospital in Bend and Prineville. She has chaired the physician peer review committee and served as the President of the medical staff at the Saint Charles hospital in Bend. She also has served as a member of the Board of Directors for St. Charles Healthcare System and the Central Oregon Independent Practice Association. Throughout her career, she has received numerous awards recognizing her professional accomplishments.

She lives in Bend with her husband and two sons. They enjoy time together as a family pursuing the outdoor beauty of Central Oregon, and are often found on the trails, slopes, rivers, and lakes playing. She also enjoys tea and dark chocolate, books, photography, movies, playing her piano, singing, or sketching on quiet days.

Mark Backus, MD, FACP, CHC

Dr. Backus is passionate about providing excellent patient care and has an insatiable desire to learn. He finds great satisfaction in providing thorough, comprehensive medical care. He deliberately schedules fewer patients with longer appointment times in an attempt to provide a relaxed atmosphere and to allow time to adequately address patients concerns.

Dr. Backus grew up in Seattle, Washington and attended Nathan Hale High School, where he was valedictorian and student body president. He received bachelor’s and master’s Degrees from Stanford University, graduating with honors in 1989. He completed medical school at Duke University, where he published a peer reviewed basic science paper, and won an AOA (medical honor society) presentation award.

Dr. Backus is highly respected by his patients and brings extensive experience in managing a primary care panel as a valued member of the Cascade Internal Medicine team.

He completed his residency at the University of Washington in 1996 and then began private practice in Cheyenne, Wyoming. After practicing in Cheyenne for 3 years, he pursued locum tenens and volunteered medical services to residents in Nepal. He moved to Bend in 2000, practiced at Bend Memorial Clinic for 6 years, and then founded Cascade Internal Medicine Specialists with Dr. Jeff Absalon. In 2008, he was honored to be elected a Fellow of the American College of Physicians. In 2014 he received a national award for blood pressure control, and later became a nationally certified Hypertension Clinician. He continues to educate local and regional physicians on Hypertension.

He immensely enjoys his three young children. Family time is very important to him. When he finds himself with free time, he enjoys his family, girlfriend, and/or a variety of hobbies, including fly-fishing, mountain biking, skate and downhill skiing, chess, and playing violin in his Celtic band “Til the Wheels come off”.

​Eric Dildine PA-C

Eric Dildine graduated manga cum laude from PA school in 2006 from the University of Washington. Upon graduating he was hired at Bend Memorial Clinic in their pulmonary department and was primarily ICU/ hospital based. In 2007 Eric transferred to St. Charles Medical Center Pulmonary/Critical Care Division. He is experienced in all levels of pulmonary and critical care medicine. In 2017 Eric left St. Charles to pursue an opportunity to work with the very skilled Internists at Cascade Internal Medicine Specialists.​

During his time spent with St. Charles, Eric was actively involved in government committee issues, and has spent the last several years on their Provider Governance Board. In addition to governing issues, his focus includes maintaining and improving non-physician provider directives and relations within health care.

Prior to Eric’s career as a PA, he worked as a paramedic at Mercy Flights in Medford, Oregon. He was initially certified as a paramedic in the state of Oregon in 1994. For several years Eric was a flight medic on the fixed wing and helicopter. His service at Mercy Flights also included serving as a Field Training Officer and Supervisor. In 2001 Eric was honored in Washington, D.C. as the Oregon representative for the National Star of Life. Eric also teaches Advanced Cardiac Life Support and Pediatric Advanced Life Support and has for the last 15 years. He continues to be involved as an instructor in various medical related education classes.

Eric Lives in Bend with his wife Sarah, who is an ICU nurse, and they have a teenage son and daughter together. Eric and his family enjoy camping, several sporting activities, and family vacations. Once a year they travel to Canada for a week and ride horses at a dude ranch with about 20 other family members.
